Regal Robot is proud to unveil perhaps our most special edition yet. This Rancor™ Concept Maquette Replica – Phil Tippett Legacy Edition goes beyond a signature edition to provide each owner with a truly unique work-of-art.
Limited to just 100 pieces, each hand-painted maquette in this unprecedented Legacy Edition will include a premium expanded plaque including a one-of-a-kind Rancor scene sketch, each one dreamed-up and hand-drawn by legendary creature creator Phil Tippett!
That approximately 3” x 3” sketch, will come beautifully matted within an 8”x10” frame that also houses a hand-numbered metal nameplate, hand-signed by Tippett and a wonderful print of a vintage behind the scenes photo of Phil with the original Rancor maquette. That frame can either stand on a table top or hang on a wall.
This maquette was the first step in designing the classic Rancor creature. With hands-on access to the original film artifact and high resolution 3D scanning, our team crafted a faithful recreation of the concept maquette for this fan-favorite beast from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi™.
At approximately 10.75” tall (including the wood display base), each is cast in heavy polyurethane resin. 100% made in the U.S.A., every replica in this edition is meticulously hand painted by the artists in our New York studio, making each a unique tribute to the artistry involved behind the scenes of our favorite films! The maquettes are hand packed in a gloss black box with die-cut foam insert and COA, and double-boxed for shipping.
Do not miss this extraordinary opportunity to bring home not just an authentic replica, scanned from the original artifact, but also an original work of art with a direct connection to the artists that inspire us!

The Archive Collection - Recreating an Artifact
“When Star Wars: Return of the Jedi debuted and the Rancor first appeared in that cave below the throne room of Jabba the Hutt™, I was mesmerized! The classic, behind-the-scenes documentaries showcasing the work of Phil Tippett’s creature shop during the production of that 1983 film were a big part of what led me to a life in the world of FX and movie monsters.
We’ve been so fortunate to work with Phil on this edition. The idea of including hand-drawn art with the plaques evolved over time and Phil took our concept to the next level, creating 100 completely unique drawings so that every collector that brings one of this edition into their homes has something absolutely original and extraordinary.
We’re all so proud of this special Legacy Edition, and I can’t wait to see it in the collections of discerning prop and statue fans and Star Wars collectors!”
– Tom Spina (Regal Robot founder)
During the production of films, the creature effects team will often dream up new and fantastic aliens and beasts by creating small scaled sculptures, called “maquettes,” to showcase their ideas. From this menagerie of maquettes, the film’s director and producer choose which characters will be brought to life for the film as costumes or puppets and what roles they will play in the story.
This incredible design was chosen to become the beast in the pit below the palace of Jabba the Hutt™. Creature shop head, Phil Tippett, sculpted both the maquette and puppet that brought this character to life.
